Roof Resurfacing vs Roof Replacement

A roof repair alone isn’t a complete fix

A standard roof and shingle repair fixes the damaged area but leaves mismatched shingles and the rest of the roof continuing to deteriorate. In some cases, that mismatch can also create insurance challenges if the repair doesn’t meet “uniform appearance” expectations.

Liqua-Roof goes further. We repair the damage, then resurface the entire roof with a brand-new, high-build granule layer. The result is a like-new, uniform finish with no patches, no vulnerabilities, and a reinforced surface that’s built to last.

COMBINING ROOF REPAIRS & RESURFACING

Repairing your roof without resurfacing leaves the job unfinished

When you repair your roof and shingles, the damaged area is fixed, but the surrounding shingles continue to age and weaken, leaving uneven protection. By resurfacing the entire roof with a high-build granule layer, you create a uniform, reinforced finish that looks like new and helps prevent future repairs.

how it works

How roof repair and resurfacing works

Our unique approach combines targeted roof repairs with our patented resurfacing system, creating a full-scale restoration that protects those repairs, helps prevent future issues, and delivers a uniform, like-new roof.

1. Localized Roof Repair

We begin by repairing all damaged areas, including leaks, missing shingles, and compromised sections, to restore the structural integrity of your roof.

2. Full Roof Resurfacing

Once repairs are complete, we resurface the entire roof with a new high-build granule layer, integrating the repaired areas, eliminating color mismatch, and reinforcing the entire surface.

INSURANCE MATCHING PROBLEM

When patchy roof repairs can become an insurance problem

A roof repair can leave behind visible patches that don’t match the rest of your roof. This isn’t just a cosmetic issue. In some situations, that lack of uniformity can create complications with insurance claims and how they’re resolved.

Matching requirements can vary by state and by policy, so it’s worth understanding how they apply in your area.
ROOF REPAIR LIFECYCLE COSTS

The real cost of roof repairs vs repair and resurfacing

A standard repair may cost less upfront, but it often leads to repeated repairs and a full replacement sooner than expected. When you look at the full lifecycle, the real cost becomes clear.

THE IDEAL SOLUTION

Is your roof a good fit for roof repairing and resurfacing?

Liqua-Roof is designed for roofs with localized damage, where the structure is still sound, but the surface is wearing out.

Your roof deck is structurally sound
Damage is localized (leaks, missing shingles, isolated areas), less than 15% of the entire roof.
The rest of your roof is aging, worn, or losing granules

How is it possible to claim that Liqua-Roof is stronger than new shingles?

It’s all about the granules. Asphalt shingles are composed of multiple layers—fiberglass for structure, asphalt for flexibility and waterproofing, and a topmost layer of granules that provides the true protection against sun, wind, and water. When those granules erode over time, your roof begins to break down. The asphalt underneath gets exposed, leading to curling, cracking, and eventual failure. What makes Liqua-Roof unlike any roof treatment or coating on the market is that we don’t just preserve what’s left—we rebuild it. Our roof resurfacing system adds a new, high-build granule layer directly onto your existing shingles, increasing their protective barrier beyond even what you’d get with brand-new shingles—including those rated Class-4 for impact resistance. That’s what makes Liqua-Roof a true upgrade, not just maintenance.

Is Liqua-Roof an alternative to roof replacement?

Absolutely! Liqua-Roof delivers the benefits of a new roof—protection, appearance, and durability—at a fraction of the cost, time, and without all the mess and disruption of a full replacement.

How is Liqua-Roof different from installing new shingles over existing ones?

Unlike layering new shingles, our roof resurfacing system is significantly more cost-effective and dramatically lighter. Traditional shingles are heavy due to their asphalt and multiple layers—materials our process eliminates. Liqua-Roof resurfaced shingles weigh less than 20% of conventional new shingles. This reduced weight helps preserve your roof's structural integrity and allows it to continue breathing properly, unlike applying shingles over existing shingles.

Will granules begin shedding like regular shingles?

Granule shedding may occur over time but at a significantly slower rate. Unlike new shingles, where granules are simply “tossed” onto hot asphalt during the manufacturing process, we physically glue the granules onto the shingles for superior adhesion. In ASTM 4977 testing, our coating showed 90% less granule loss compared to uncoated shingles, ensuring long-lasting protection.

What colors are available?

Liqua-Roof’s base formulation is clear; the color comes entirely from the granules themselves! We offer the same color options as new shingles, blending two or three granule shades to create a natural, dimensional appearance—just like a traditional shingled roof.
