Roof Resurfacing vs Roof Rejuvenation

We don’t rejuvenate roofs, we resurface them.

Liqua-Roof is an innovative alternative to roof rejuvenation and restoration. Instead of a penetrating oil treatment that simply restores shingle flexibility, Liqua-Roof resurfaces and rebuilds shingles by adding a new, high-build granule layer, creating a protective layer that outperforms even new shingles at a fraction of the cost.

OVERVIEW

Roof rejuvenation restores oils, but not granules

Roof and shingle rejuvenators are oil-based penetrants that restore lost oils in aging, brittle shingles exposed to UV rays after granule loss. They can restore flexibility, but they don’t address the underlying problem of granule shedding and shingle failure.
PAINPOINTS
Rejuvenators don't restore lost granules

Rejuvenators don’t improve granule retention or replace lost granules. Premium nano-particle rejuvenators simply penetrate deeper into shingles and last slightly longer, but face the same performance limitations

A temporary maintenance solution

The oil treatment eventually runs off, requiring re-application every 2-5 years

Doesn't allow for color changes

Roof rejuvenators restore oils but can’t change the color of your shingles. The finish simply darkens the existing roof tone and leaves it looking refreshed, not renewed.

when to choose

Shingle rejuvenation moisturizes your roof, while resurfacing rebuilds it

Shingle rejuvenators offers a quick refresh, but resurfacing rebuilds and fortifies your shingles for lasting durability and protection

Roof Rejuvenation

CHOOSE WHEN

You want to treat dried, curled shingles at the lowest upfront cost, knowing the results are temporary
If you want a low-cost, temporary fix for aging shingles, rejuvenation treatments can restore some flexibility; but they don’t reinforce shingle strength, improve long-term performance, or address the real issue of granule loss.

CHOOSE WHEN

You want to treat dried, curled shingles and change the color of your roof with a long-term solution
Liqua-Roof is engineered to stop granule loss (the root cause of shingle degradation) by applying a high-build granule layer that locks shingles in place with Granulock™ technology. The granulated finish looks like brand-new shingles and provides lasting protection without re-application.

Available in a wide variety of colors.

FAQs

FAQs about roof resurfacing vs roof rejuvenation

Learn more about roof resurfacing and how it differs from basic oil-based shingle rejuvenators.

View more FAQs
Is Liqua-Roof the same as rejuvenating your roof with an oil?

No. Our roof resurfacing system rejuvenates and reinforces your roof, but with a fundamentally different approach. Traditional oil-based rejuvenation slows deterioration by using oil to rehydrate the asphalt in shingles. However, since it doesn't replace the lost protective granules, the asphalt remains exposed to UV rays and continues to degrade—requiring reapplication every few years.

We restore and fortify shingles by literally re-granuling them. We apply a new, high-build granule layer that replicates your shingles’ original surface and restores protection. Unlike oil treatments, this new protective layer does not require repeated applications and is engineered to last as long (or longer) than a new roof.

Sound bold? It’s not. We're physically adhering granules to the shingle surface, unlike new shingles where granules are embedded during manufacturing. This ensures superior retention and long-term protection!

Does Liqua-Roof last longer than oil rejuvenation treatments?

Yes. Oil rejuvenators temporarily restore oils in shingles but require reapplication every few years. Liqua-Roof rebuilds the protective granulated layer with a high-build system, delivering long-term durability and a 15-year warranty and no maintenance cycles.

Can oil rejuvenation improve impact resistance like Liqua-Roof?

No. Oil rejuvenators soften shingles but do not add granules or strengthen the surface. Liqua-Roof increases impact resistance up to 3× stronger than new shingles by adding a reinforced granule layer bonded with our proprietary resin.

Will my roof look the same with oil rejuvenation compared to Liqua-Roof?

Oil rejuvenation darkens the roof but maintains the old texture and visible wear. Liqua-Roof restores an authentic, granulated, like-new shingle appearance with the option to update roof color without looking painted or glossy.

Is oil rejuvenation effective for roofs with granule loss?

Only partially. Oil treatments cannot replace lost granules and don’t stop granule shedding. Liqua-Roof is engineered specifically to restore lost granules, rebuild volume, and lock them in place, reducing granule loss by up to 90%.
