ROOF RESURFACING VS LIQUID-APPLIED ROOFING

Liquid-applied roofing coats a roof, but doesn’t rebuild it

Liqua-Roof's roof resurfacing system rebuilds and fortifies a roof’s surface with real roofing granules, going beyond the protection of any waterproof membrane.

Roof Resurfacing vs Liquid-Applied Roofing

Liqua-Roof is not liquid-applied roofing, it is a roof resurfacing system

Instead of forming a basic liquid membrane, Liqua-Roof adds a new, high-build granule layer to restore the protective surface of asphalt shingle roofs and flat roof systems.

OVERVIEW

What is liquid-applied roofing?

Liquid-applied roofing and flat roof coatings are often used interchangeably, but they differ: liquid-applied roofing is a multi-coat, full-system waterproof membrane (typically elastomeric, acrylic, silicone, polyurethane, bitumen, or asphalt emulsion) designed for long-term protection, while flat roof coatings are thinner, short-term maintenance solutions for minor upgrades.
PAINPOINTS
- Typically suited for flat/low-slope roofs, not shingles
- Used on top of EPDM, TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, metal, concrete
- Requires reapplication over time
- Leaves a coated/painted appearance
COMPARISON

More than traditional liquid-applied roofing

Liqua-Roof Flat, our roof resurfacing system engineered for flat roofs, cures into a thick, seamless monolithic layer reinforced with real granules. Unlike traditional liquid-applied roofing or flat roof coatings, Liqua-Roof Flat provides superior thickness, durability, and long-term performance.

Thicker than liquid-applied roofing (70–80 mils)
Monolithic, seamless layer with no weak points
Highly flexible and impact-resistant
Solar-reflective and energy-efficient
High water-resistance and breathable

Is Liqua-Roof considered a liquid-applied roofing system?

Not in the traditional sense. Liquid-applied roofing creates a waterproof membrane/film, while Liqua-Roof is a roof resurfacing system that adds a new, high-build granule layer to rebuild the protective surface of shingle and flat roofs. It restores what coatings cannot replace: the granulated layer that protects asphalt.

Can liquid-applied roofing be used on shingle roofs like Liqua-Roof?

Typically not. Liquid-applied systems are generally for flat and low-slope roofs (EPDM, TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, metal, concrete). They are not designed for shingles and don’t address granule loss. Liqua-Roof, however, is engineered for both asphalt shingles and flat roofs.

Do liquid-applied membranes rebuild the protective granule layer?

No. Liquid-applied roofing forms a coated or painted film and does not restore lost granules. Liqua-Roof goes further by adding a new, high-build granule layer, reinforcing the roof with real roofing granules, the same material shingles are made from.

How does Liqua-Roof Flat compare to traditional liquid-applied roofing in thickness and durability?

Traditional liquid-applied membranes are relatively thin. Liqua-Roof Flat cures into a much thicker (70–80 mils), monolithic, seamless surface reinforced with granules. This results in superior durability, flexibility, and long-term performance, not just waterproofing.

Do liquid-applied roofing systems need reapplication? What about Liqua-Roof?

Yes. Liquid-applied membranes typically require periodic reapplication to maintain performance. Liqua-Roof’s resurfacing system, on the other hand, delivers long-term protection and surface rebuilding in a single application.
