Roof Resurfacing vs Roof Replacement

We don’t replace roofs, we resurface them.

Liqua-Roof's roof resurfacing system is an innovative alternative to full roof replacement for asphalt shingle and flat roofs. Instead of tearing off your existing roofing, we resurface and rebuild it with a brand-new, high-build granule layer, creating a protective layer that outperforms even new shingles at a fraction of the cost.

OVERVIEW

Why and when to replace your roof

Homeowners typically replace their roof and shingles when they start to see widespread shingle degradation (lifting, curling, drying out, or cracking) and when the underlying roof membrane begins to age or fail. These issues signal that the roof can no longer protect the home the way it should.
PAINPOINTS
It’s disruptive & wasteful

Replacing your roof is loud, messy, and a major disruption to daily life. And all those old shingles end up going straight to the landfill.

It’s expensive

A full tear-off and replacement is one of the most expensive home improvement projects.

It's not always needed

Many roofs get replaced unnecessarily because contractors present it as the only solution to shingle degradation. Thanks to Liqua-Roof's innovative resurfacing solution,  you can now reverse shingle wear without tearing anything off.

when to choose

Resurface when you can, and replace only when you have to

While some conditions warrant a complete roof replacement, most roofs can be resurfaced without the cost, time, or mess of a new roof.

New Roof

CHOOSE WHEN

Roof systems are failing or require upgrades
Recommended when your roof has major structural problems or widespread failure, or when system upgrades or insurance requirements make a full replacement necessary.

CHOOSE WHEN

You want to reverse shingle degradation to prevent a full replacement with a long-term solution
Your shingles are dry, brittle, and starting to curl with minor repairs needed,  but the roof deck/underlayment are sound. Liqua-roof is the most cost-effective way to restore like-new performance and curb appeal, without a tear-off.

How is it possible to claim that Liqua-Roof is stronger than new shingles?

It’s all about the granules. Asphalt shingles are composed of multiple layers—fiberglass for structure, asphalt for flexibility and waterproofing, and a topmost layer of granules that provides the true protection against sun, wind, and water. When those granules erode over time, your roof begins to break down. The asphalt underneath gets exposed, leading to curling, cracking, and eventual failure. What makes Liqua-Roof unlike any roof treatment or coating on the market is that we don’t just preserve what’s left—we rebuild it. Our resurfacing system adds a new, high-build granule layer directly onto your existing shingles, increasing their protective barrier beyond even what you’d get with brand-new shingles—including those rated Class-4 for impact resistance. That’s what makes Liqua-Roof a true upgrade, not just maintenance.

Is Liqua-Roof an alternative to roof replacement?

Absolutely! Liqua-Roof delivers the benefits of a new roof—protection, appearance, and durability—at a fraction of the cost, time, and without all the mess and disruption of a full replacement.

How is Liqua-Roof different from installing new shingles over existing ones?

Unlike layering new shingles, our roof resurfacing system is significantly more cost-effective and dramatically lighter. Traditional shingles are heavy due to their asphalt and multiple layers—materials our process eliminates. Liqua-Roof resurfaced shingles weigh less than 20% of conventional new shingles. This reduced weight helps preserve your roof's structural integrity and allows it to continue breathing properly, unlike applying shingles over existing shingles.

Will granules begin shedding like regular shingles?

Granule shedding may occur over time but at a significantly slower rate. Unlike new shingles, where granules are simply “tossed” onto hot asphalt during the manufacturing process, we physically glue the granules onto the shingles for superior adhesion. In ASTM 4977 testing, our coating showed 90% less granule loss compared to uncoated shingles, ensuring long-lasting protection.

What colors are available?

Liqua-Roof’s base formulation is clear; the color comes entirely from the granules themselves! We offer the same color options as new shingles, blending two or three granule shades to create a natural, dimensional appearance—just like a traditional shingled roof.
